The Nevada Gaming Control Board regulates online poker and sports betting in Nevada, the first US state to regulate iGaming in 2013.

The US online gambling regulatory framework differs radically from Europe or Latin America: there is no federal regulation of online casino or sports betting, and each of the 50 states has full authority to legislate, regulate and licence (or prohibit) online gambling within its borders. This fragmentation creates a complex map of independent markets, each with its own regulator, requirements, costs and permitted products. States with legal online casino (2025): New Jersey (DGE), Michigan (MGCB), Pennsylvania (PGCB), Delaware (Delaware Lottery), Connecticut (DCP and Connecticut Lottery) and West Virginia (WV Lottery). New Jersey is the largest and most mature market since 2013, with 15% GGR tax and the hub-and-spoke model linking online operators to Atlantic City casinos. Michigan launched in January 2021 with 20-28% GGR tax depending on game type. Pennsylvania launched in 2019 with one of the world's highest slot taxes: 54% GGR, 16% table games, 16% poker. Despite high tax burdens, both markets are very lucrative given population purchasing power. Licence costs by state: NJ USD 400,000-500,000 application; PA USD 4 million for interactive slots licence; MI USD 100,000 platform licence plus linked physical operator fees. Sports betting is legal in 30+ states since PASPA was struck down in 2018. Top markets: New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania. GGR taxes range from 6.75% in Nevada to 51% in New York for online betting. US sports betting market exceeds USD 10 billion annual GGR and continues growing.
