Croatian live sports data platform with 40 million monthly users, coverage of 25 sports and 20,000 tournaments, offers free widgets for media and official partnerships with leagues such as LALIGA, Liga Portugal and Saudi Pro League.
## A Croatian bootstrap company turned global sports platform Sofascore was founded in 2010 in Zagreb by Ivan Bešlić and Zlatko Hrkać, two friends from the small locality of Klinča Sela. The origin story is atypical for a technology company competing at global scale today: it started as a subpage of a blog dedicated to Croatian singer Oliver Dragojević on the Cesarica domain, where the founders added a sports results feed. In 2011 an invitation from Google to its European headquarters in Dublin convinced them to formalise the project, and in 2012, on the eve of the European Championship, the service was rebranded as Sofascore. The company remains bootstrap, with no public institutional investors, operating with more than 300 employees distributed between Zagreb, Rijeka and offices in more than ten countries. The largest markets are Brazil, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. ## Massive coverage with 40 million monthly users and the Sofascore Rating as differentiator The operational scale of the platform is one of the points where Sofascore differentiates itself from the rest of the segment. The application handles data from 25 sports, covers more than 20,000 tournaments globally, is available in 40 languages and maintains 40 million monthly active users. The most distinctive product is the Sofascore Rating, a proprietary system launched in 2015 that assigns each player during a match a numerical rating on a 3.0 to 10.0 scale generated by an automated algorithm processing more than 100 real-time statistics. Each player starts with a base rating of 6.5 that fluctuates according to positive and negative actions. The rating has been the subject of academic analysis and is used as reference by both fans and professional analysts. Other proprietary visualisations include Attack Momentum, heatmaps and Torneo by Sofascore, a tool launched in 2019 that allows local organisers to upload data from amateur competitions that integrates into the global feed. ## B2B product centred on free widgets and institutional partnerships The B2B offering of Sofascore has a particular architecture compared to the rest of the sports data segment. The company publishes free widgets through corporate.sofascore.com/widgets that any website can integrate without a commercial licence, a decision that prioritises massive distribution over direct monetisation of the data. For deeper institutional partnerships, the media partnership team works with sites and leagues that require custom integration. The declared official alliances are significant: LALIGA has an extended agreement until 2025/26 with Sofascore as Official Scores and Stats Partner, Liga Portugal operates with Sofascore as Official Data Insights Provider, Saudi Pro League worked with the platform from October 2025 for highlights and livestreams, the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh 2025 designated Sofascore as official digital partner, the Deaf International Basketball Federation named it official technical partner, and there are additional agreements with UTR Sports, NNL (Nigerian National League) and others. ## An explicit institutional decision not to supply data to bookmakers The most important piece for understanding Sofascore's role in the iGaming ecosystem is an official company statement: Sofascore does not supply sports data to bookmakers, does not offer commercial API endpoints for betting houses, and disclaims responsibility for any use of data published on its platform to verify bets. This stance is deliberate and maintained despite the commercial pressure the sportsbook segment represents. The B2B use of Sofascore in the iGaming ecosystem happens indirectly: sports news portals, odds comparison affiliate sites, specialised media and fan content platforms can integrate the free widgets to enrich their offering without becoming bookmakers. For a Brazilian iGaming portal that covers sports betting and seeks to enrich its match pages with live stats, player ratings, heatmaps and Attack Momentum without paying commercial feed licences, Sofascore is a valid option via widgets, with the explicit limitation that it is not a data provider for betting houses.
