Casino Awasa Otrobanda Hotel

Casino Awasa at Otrobanda Hotel is the casino of the historic Otrobanda neighborhood in Willemstad, one of Curacao three most recognized casinos, with slot machines, roulette and blackjack tables in the heart of the historic other-side-of-the-channel neighborhood. It operates under Curacao Gaming Control Board license. Otrobanda, whose name in Papiamento means the other side, is the historic Willemstad neighborhood on the western bank of Sint Annabaai bay, across from the Punda neighborhood. The two neighborhoods are connected by the Queen Emma floating bridge, which pivots on its axis to let ships pass, being one of the world few pedestrian floating bridges. Otrobanda has in its cobblestone streets and colorful colonial houses one of the most characteristic historic promenades in the Dutch Caribbean.

Otrobanda and the UNESCO historic center of Willemstad

Willemstad historic center, including the Punda and Otrobanda neighborhoods and the Scharloo area, was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1997 as an exceptional example of tropicalized Dutch colonial architecture. Punda facades, with their pastel colors ranging from yellow to pink and blue, are globally recognized as the most photographed image of the Dutch Caribbean. Kura Hulanda Museum in Otrobanda, one of the Caribbean best museums of African slavery history, has the largest collection of artifacts related to the transatlantic slave trade in the region. Curacao was one of the Caribbean largest slave trade centers during the 18th century, with more than 100,000 enslaved people passing through the island between 1662 and 1863.
