Gran Casino Frontón México

Gran Casino Fronton Mexico is the casino installed in the Fronton Mexico building in Colonia Tabacalera, one of Mexico City most important art deco monuments and witness to the history of gaming and capital entertainment since 1929. The Fronton Mexico building, designed by architect Tomas Dominguez in art deco style, was for decades the main jai alai venue in Mexico and one of the most active betting and nightlife centers of 20th-century Federal District. Today it houses Gran Casino with slot machines, baccarat, poker and roulette tables, and the entertainment hall that recovers the original use of the building. It operates under Ministry of Interior license and represents one of the most notable examples of 20th-century architectural heritage reuse as an entertainment space.

Fronton Mexico: art deco, jai alai and the history of gaming in CDMX

Fronton Mexico was inaugurated in 1929 during Plutarco Elias Calles government as the jai alai palace of the Federal District, a sport of Spanish origin that had in Mexico one of its main Latin American markets. The jai alai court was the setting for the sport most important confrontations in the first half of the 20th century, with bets that in its golden era matched those of racetracks and cockfighting. The building is catalogued as Cultural Heritage of Mexico City and its art deco facade, with geometric mosaics and reliefs, is one of the visual icons of the expanded CDMX Historic Center. Colonia Tabacalera, where Fronton is located, is one of the capital highest architectural heritage concentration neighborhoods.
