Sala Casino Tacuarembo is the Uruguayan state casino in the capital of Uruguay interior largest department, with slot machines, roulette and blackjack. Tacuarembo is the capital of the homonymous department, Uruguay largest department by area in the country north-center, a 55,000-inhabitant city in the heart of the Uruguayan interior livestock and forestry region. The Uruguayan Oriental gaucho figure, with his chiripá, bombacha de campo, poncho and wide-brim hat, is the most representative symbol of the Uruguayan rural imagination. Tacuarembo department also has Uruguay largest export pine area, with Pinus elliottii and Pinus taeda plantations that are the base of the northern country export forestry industry. Valle del Rio Tacuarembo, with its cuchillas and natural forests, is the highest-level rural tourism setting of the Uruguayan interior. Tacuarembo is also claimed by some researchers as the birthplace of tango, based on documents linking guitarist Carlos Gardel to the area.
