Alert in Buenos Aires: Strike, protests in casinos (24-hour)
The AMS union unanimously decided to toughen the strike measures following the failure of the wage negotiation. The strike will take place next week, and the workers do not rule out mobilizing to the IPLyC headquarters in La Plata.
The wage conflict that keeps the gaming industry in the Province of Buenos Aires on edge has entered a critical phase. After a massive assembly, the Trade Union Association of Administration, Maintenance, and Services Employees (AMS) announced a general strike that will affect all casinos in the province within the next six days.
The decision, taken unanimously, comes after the categorical rejection of the latest wage offer presented by the Provincial Government and the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC). Faced with what they consider a lack of concrete progress, the union has chosen to deepen the struggle plan to force an improvement in the wage negotiation.
Plan of struggle and union unity
Beyond the general strike, the union has designed a scheme of constant pressure that includes:
- Daily demonstrations: From 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., workers will carry out visible actions in the gaming halls.
- Strategic coordination: For the first time in a while, AMS will work together with the National Casino Employees Association (AECN), unifying dates and times to give greater impact to the claim.
- Mobilization to La Plata: If the situation is not resolved, the conflict could move directly to the IPLyC central offices.
"They will not wear us down"
AMS leadership presented the unanimous vote as internal shielding against the province. "Unity is demonstrated in actions. Every day there are more of us and we are firmer in defending our rights," union sources said, emphasizing that they will not allow time to wear down the workers’ position.
This escalation comes after a week of growing tension that included working to rule, demonstrations in front of the emblematic Central Casino of Mar del Plata, and the suspension of key tasks in operational areas. With the announcement of the general strike, the operation of the provincial gaming halls is under direct threat, putting at risk the revenue of one of the sectors that contributes the most to the Buenos Aires public treasury.
