Argentina blocks over 250 illegal gambling sites
Argentina's National Communications Agency (ENACOM) has carried out one of the most forceful actions in recent times against the black market for digital gambling. Following a court order, the agency proceeded to block 251 websites that were operating illegally throughout the national territory, lacking the necessary licenses and controls to offer gambling services. This measure is the result of an investigation led by the Specialized Cybercrime Investigation Unit (UFEIC) of San Isidro, setting a precedent in the protection of the regulated ecosystem in the country.
The judicial case, promoted by prosecutor Patricio Ferrari, originated from a formal complaint filed by the Argentine Chamber of Casino Halls, Bingos and Annexes (CASCBA). The primary objective of this deployment is to dismantle clandestine gambling networks that operated in the shadows, without offering any guarantee of transparency or security for bettors. According to the investigations, these domains simulated legitimate platforms, but concealed severe risks that affected the financial integrity and privacy of users who accessed their services.

One of the most critical points highlighted by the authorities is the total absence of identity verification mechanisms on these blocked sites. This lack of control facilitated indiscriminate access for minors to gambling activities, which represents a direct violation of responsible gambling and child protection policies. In addition, it was detected that on multiple occasions these platforms did not guarantee the payment of prizes won, operating under fraud schemes that systematically harmed consumers.
From a public health perspective, the proliferation of unregulated platforms is directly associated with an increase in the risks of problem gambling, especially among young people. By not having self-exclusion tools or auditable deposit limits, these pages encourage compulsive behaviors without any institutional containment. The Judiciary and control bodies agree that these platforms are a source of digital insecurity that requires constant vigilance to prevent large-scale scams.

Gonzalo Atanasof, president of the Lottery of the Province of Buenos Aires, has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of this measure, emphasizing that the fight against illegal gambling is a shared responsibility between the State and the private sector. Atanasof highlighted that this type of clandestine activity not only evades fundamental resources that should be allocated to social and health programs, but also destroys confidence in the official market, which does comply with strict standards of transparency and prize payment.
For his part, prosecutor Patricio Ferrari emphasized the importance of articulating joint strategies between the different public actors, with special emphasis on close collaboration with the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos of the province of Buenos Aires. This institutional synergy is considered the only effective way to combat a criminal modality that adapts quickly to the digital environment.
