Buenos Aires allows horse racing agencies to register online gamblers
The Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) of the Province of Buenos Aires approved a resolution authorizing horse racing agencies to register bettors on authorized online gaming platforms, thus expanding the role of these physical points within the regulated ecosystem.
The regulation stipulates that horse racing agencies may carry out player registration for online gaming licensees, through adhesion contracts entered into directly with the operators or through the Argentine Chamber of Turf Agencies (CAAT). In this way, the agencies are formally integrated into the regulated online gaming circuit in the province.
According to the provisions, the premises may allocate a specific space for bettor registration and provide the necessary technological means so that users can place bets on the digital platforms if they wish. This exclusive area may not exceed 40% of the total surface area of the establishment where the horse racing agency operates.
The resolution also defines that IPLyC itself will be responsible for setting the criteria and guidelines for image and advertising that online gaming licensees may use within the agencies. The promotion must be applied uniformly, ensuring equal conditions among all authorized operators.
The decision of the provincial body responds to a request promoted by the CAAT, which had already requested in 2024 the possibility of implementing an in-person mode of access to authorized online gaming, using the network of horse racing agencies as a channel to connect with players.
IPLyC officials indicated that the measure is framed within the current context of the sector, marked by the advance of digitalization and the sustained growth of online gaming. Faced with this scenario, the institute considers it necessary to diversify and expand the activities of horse racing agencies, incorporating them into the client registration process for duly authorized online gaming platforms in the province.
