Buenos Aires Lottery: 300 Illegal Sites Reported, Block Requested
The Buenos Aires Province Lottery has intensified its offensive against illegal gambling. The Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC), led by its president Gonzalo Atanasof, filed a formal complaint against 300 betting platforms operating without authorization and requested ENACOM to urgently block them to prevent access from provincial territory.
The complaint was filed with the Specialized Prosecutor's Units of Lomas de Zamora, La Matanza, and San Isidro, and does not rule out including the crime of money laundering. The agency requested to proceed with identifying those responsible and administrators of the sites to broaden the charges and dismantle the structures behind these clandestine operations.
"We are addressing a problem that goes far beyond simple illegal pages. These are organized criminal chains that launder money abroad, evade taxes, and operate completely outside the law," Atanasof stated.
The complaint arises from an internal IPLyC investigation that allowed tracking the operation of the platforms, identifying their digital structure, and detecting recurring maneuvers in their operation. This action adds to the sustained work of the current administration, which has already made more than 120 prior complaints and collaborated in 50 raids related to illegal gambling.
The Institute also works together with the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina (ALEA) in detecting and eliminating social media profiles that promote unauthorized betting. The strategy focuses especially on the digital ecosystem, where clandestine operators find ways to disseminate and attract players, including minors.
Atanasof again warned about this point: "Not everything is acceptable. When we talk about adolescents, the issue must be addressed from mental health and safety perspectives. Gambling addiction must be prevented, but also illegal sites that lack controls and allow access to minors must be blocked. Today many kids are just one click away because these platforms put no filters."
For the head of IPLyC, combating this phenomenon requires a federal outlook. "Reporting site by site is insufficient. We need modern tools for a modern crime. This fight cannot be waged by a single jurisdiction; there must be a coordinated national policy," he concluded.
