CAOLAB says Buenos Aires province agencies add sports betting

The Chamber of Official Lottery and Related Agents of Buenos Aires (CAOLAB) has marked a milestone in its institutional history with the inauguration of its new offices in the city of La Plata. In this context of renewal, the chamber's authorities confirmed long-awaited news for the sector: the incorporation of sports betting into the network of official agencies in the province of Buenos Aires. Marcelo Iglesias, president of the entity, assured that the decision has already been made and that the technical mechanisms are underway for the implementation to materialize as immediately as possible, returning a key business vertical in the current ecosystem to physical points of sale.

The new system proposed by CAOLAB bears resemblances to the historic and defunct Sports Predictions (PRODE), albeit with a necessary technological twist. As Iglesias explained, the objective is to offer a much more agile and modern tool that adapts to the demands of the contemporary bettor. In an initial phase, users will be able to place bets on basic results (home, draw, or away), with the vision of expanding the catalog of markets as the system evolves and consolidates in agency terminals.

An institutional response to the advance of illegal gambling

Beyond commercial expansion, this measure emerges as a defensive strategy against the uncontrolled advance of unauthorized betting platforms. Claudio Marino, secretary of CAOLAB, was emphatic in warning about the "infinite offer" of illegal websites on the internet that operate without any type of governmental supervision. In this regard, Marino recalled that in the province of Buenos Aires there are only seven authorized official platforms, which leaves a vast digital territory in the hands of operators who do not guarantee the traceability of funds or the protection of users' money.

The chamber's concern also extends to the social impact of the lack of effective regulation. Iglesias directly linked the rise of illegal online gambling to the increase in problem gambling, especially warning about the situation of minors. The leader lamented that, in many cases, the habit of betting has replaced traditional recreational activities in schools, where the cell phone becomes an unfiltered access route to uncontrolled betting markets. Therefore, the commitment to official agencies seeks to channel interest in sports towards a safe, in-person, and strictly regulated environment.

Modernization to sustain the network of Buenos Aires agencies

The economic reality of lottery agencies is not immune to the general crisis, and CAOLAB leaders acknowledged that the sector is going through a complex situation that demands constant innovation. The incorporation of new products, such as sports betting, is not just a desire for expansion, but a vital necessity to sustain the activity of thousands of small businesses that depend on the official network. "We need to modernize and compete with other offers," said Iglesias, emphasizing that the survival of the network depends on its ability to offer attractive alternatives within legality.

CAOLAB's project ultimately seeks to restore gambling's character as entertainment with social returns. By centralizing bets in neighborhood agencies, it is guaranteed that the resources generated remain within the formal circuit, contributing to provincial coffers and ensuring that the activity develops under security standards that the informality of the internet can never offer. The modernization of official agencies is, therefore, the chosen path to face the challenges of an industry that no longer tolerates technological delays.
