Entre Ríos enables NOVA+, an application to block illegal betting
The Institute of Financial Aid for Social Action (IAFAS), the gambling regulatory body in the province of Entre Ríos, announced the launch of NOVA+, a free application that automatically blocks access to unauthorized online betting platforms. The tool stems from an agreement with Lotería de Córdoba and responds to the need to combat the exposure of minors to unregulated online gambling, which is growing in the region.
NOVA+ is available for iOS and Android operating systems. Once installed, the application automatically blocks illegal gambling and betting sites, in addition to offering parental control functions for minors' devices. Content filters are continuously updated to incorporate new detected illegal domains and platforms. The tool's design prioritizes ease of use for parents without advanced technical knowledge.
The agreement between IAFAS and Lotería de Córdoba also includes the implementation of LUCA, a complementary solution aimed at educational and sports institutions. LUCA functions as a network filter that prevents access to illegal online betting sites within institutional networks, with filter updates that synchronize automatically. The solution allows schools and clubs to establish digital protection policies without relying on specific technical training.
IAFAS frames this initiative within a comprehensive strategy to reduce risks associated with illegal online gambling. Complementary policies include financial education workshops titled "Responsibly Fun," training aimed at teachers and health promoters, and awareness campaigns under the hashtag #esporahí. The regulatory body seeks to build a protection ecosystem that combines technology, education, and public communication.
In Latin America, the development of illegal betting blocking tools by provincial regulators reflects an innovative approach to child protection. While national governments debate legal regulatory frameworks, regional authorities like IAFAS are implementing accessible technological solutions that shift the responsibility for protection to families and institutions.
