StopApuestas app reaches record downloads in Santa Fe
Less than 48 hours after its official launch, the StopApuestas application has surpassed one thousand active downloads in the province of Santa Fe. This project, led by the provincial government, emerges as a direct technological response to the growing concern about minors' access to illegal online gambling platforms. The tool allows parents and guardians to comprehensively manage how children and adolescents use their mobile devices, giving them the ability to define which content and websites are permitted within a safe and supervised environment.
The initiative is the result of joint work between the Secretariat of Technologies for Management (STG) and the Santa Fe Lottery. According to authorities, the rapid adoption of the system in its first hours confirms a latent social demand for effective parental control solutions. Governor Maximiliano Pullaro was in charge of presenting the platform this week, which is positioned as a model of active care to accompany the digital growth of new generations in a context of high exposure to virtual risks.
A dual system based on identity validation and selective control
The operation of StopApuestas is based on the interaction of two linked applications that fulfill complementary roles. On one hand, adults install the version called Stop Apuestas Mayor, from which they can create personalized profiles for each minor, authorize specific applications, and manage access requests in real time. On the other hand, the minor's device must have Stop Apuestas Menor, an application that transforms the phone into a controlled ecosystem, blocking the execution of external browsers and centralizing all activity in an interface shielded against harmful content.
To guarantee the security of the system and the veracity of family ties, the activation process is carried out through the Citizen ID. This mechanism allows for the validation of user identities and the transparent and official association of devices. Unlike other conventional filtering tools, this platform operates under a "whitelist" scheme, meaning that any website or digital service remains blocked by default until the responsible adult decides to enable it manually.
Education and digital literacy as pillars of protection
Beyond technical restriction, StopApuestas aims to protect young people from environments that encourage violence or expose them to situations of extreme vulnerability. Ignacio Tabares, Secretary of Technologies for Management, pointed out that the true institutional challenge is to provide parents with the necessary tools to understand and accompany what happens in their children's virtual lives. The application includes an initial database with educational and recreational sites already authorized, although each family is free to customize this catalog according to their own criteria and needs.
The official strategy of the Ministry of Education of Santa Fe aims for this tool to reach more than 350,000 students throughout the province. The project is integrated into a digital literacy plan that seeks to promote responsible and ethical use of technology, keeping adolescents away from problem gambling and other dangers associated with the black market of betting. With this deployment, Santa Fe positions itself at the forefront of public policies aimed at protecting minors in the digital ecosystem, achieving one of the highest initial adoption rates recorded for this type of governmental initiative.
