LOTBA led a workshop on problematic online gambling use
The Buenos Aires City Lottery led a workshop this week on problematic technology use and online gambling, held at its headquarters with the participation of lottery authorities, the Buenos Aires City Council of the Judiciary, and students from the Cristóforo Colombo Institute. The meeting was led by the lottery president, Jesús Mariano Acevedo, the president of the Council of the Judiciary, Karina Leguizamón, the Director of Justice and Education, Alicia Caruso, and the institute's rector, Milena Panaro.
The activity is part of the agreements signed between the Council and the lottery, aimed at creating prevention and awareness programs regarding illegal gambling and problem gambling, through a series of talks, workshops, and joint activities that seek not only to raise awareness but also to inform students about the various crimes and infractions surrounding the activity and the regulations on raffles, betting, and games authorized by local laws. The immediate precedent is the digital problem gambling prevention workshop launched last year, and authorities highlighted their concern about the harm caused by this issue and announced a campaign to continue raising awareness.
The Director of Justice and Education, Alicia Caruso, stated that this is a serious problem in several ways, from the lack of regulation to indiscriminate consumption through digital wallets, with special attention to the impact on adolescents suffering from this addiction and on their families and educational community. During the winter holidays, the lottery also joined the "Vacaciones en la Escuela" (Holidays at School) program, promoted by the city's Ministry of Education, to bring the "Hablar es Ganar" (Talking is Winning) campaign to students of different levels through games and workshops that promote a healthy relationship with gaming and highlight the risks of underage betting, with activities in parks and schools.
This is a sensitive topic. If you are experiencing a problematic gambling situation or know someone who is, I can help you find appropriate support resources.
