LOTBA reviews its achievements in the fight against illegal gambling
The president of the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA), Jesús Acevedo, highlighted the institution's achievements regarding the fight against illegal in-person and online gambling, a year and a half into his administration.
Through LinkedIn, Acevedo expressed that upon taking office as head of LOTBA, they set the goal of “combating clandestine gambling and preventing child gambling addiction,” based on three pillars: “awareness, regulation, and control.” From this, he noted that concrete actions were taken such as blocking illegal websites, blocking profiles and advertisements on social networks, complaints against clandestine physical gambling, and the relaunch of the prevention campaign #TalkingIsWinning.
He also indicated that one of the most relevant milestones was the joint work with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Illegal Gambling (FEJA) to report public figures who promote illegal betting platforms on social networks. “Buenos Aires City thus became the first jurisdiction in the country to act by sending formal legal notices and initiating investigations into more than 110 reported influencers,” he emphasized. In this context, Acevedo shared a series of indicators, such as more than 1,700 access blocks to betting sites in schools and the BA WIFI network, more than 2,400 website blocks (ENACOM and ALEA-NIC), and more than 2,200 blocks of profiles on social networks and advertisements or posts.
Additionally, 89 formal legal notices were sent to influencers who promoted illegal gambling, and 14 of them completed the training course on pathological gambling at LOTBA. Furthermore, more than 120 schools were visited, over 210 workshops were held, and more than 100 additional activities were organized in clubs and summer camps. “At LOTBA, we continuously renew the commitment made with Jorge Macri, Head of Government of the City, to combat these issues with concrete measures,” concluded the official.
