Lotería de Córdoba launches its own online horse racing platform

Córdoba Turf

While the province of Buenos Aires debates how to restrict access to online betting, Córdoba has launched its own channel. Lotería de Córdoba rolled out Córdoba Turf, the province's first official online horse racing platform, unveiled at the Jockey Club de Córdoba during the Clásico San Jerónimo.

The launch brought together the agency's president, David Urreta, and Online Gaming Deputy Manager, Ivan Vaiarini, choosing a classic race as its stage. The platform is available at cordobaturf.bet.ar, with free access and restricted exclusively to users aged 18 and older. The Lottery presented it as a channel designed to support the growth and development of the province's horse racing industry.

The key technical detail to note is the domain. In Argentina, the .bet.ar extension serves as a hallmark of legality: it is the space reserved for gaming channels authorized by provincial lotteries, meaning the web address itself acts as a verifiable credential for bettors. In a market where the Buenos Aires regulator estimates that 80 percent of online gambling flows through unlicensed channels, this identifier is the simplest tool the state has to help users distinguish between authorized and unauthorized sites without needing to consult a registry.

Horse racing is also a vertical with its own unique dynamic within regulated gaming. Unlike online casino or sports betting, horse racing supports a supply chain of breeders, trainers, jockeys, and racetracks whose funding directly depends on betting volume. Consequently, digitalizing the channel not only aims to generate revenue but also to ensure the viability of the sport that drives it. This is the same rationale Paraguay incorporated into its bill for a new regulatory authority, where racetracks are among the activities that fund the agency.

Lotería de Córdoba is the agency that manages and regulates gambling in the Argentine province of Córdoba, holding jurisdiction over lotteries, quiniela, casinos, and authorized betting across the provincial territory. Gambling in Argentina is governed at the provincial level, meaning each jurisdiction licenses its own channels and operators, and .bet.ar domains identify the platforms holding such authorization.
