Online betting in Argentina generated 48 million in the semester
Argentina's Tax and Customs Control Agency collected 71.828 billion pesos, approximately 48.2 million dollars, during the first half of 2026 through the indirect tax on legal online gambling and betting, driven by the FIFA World Cup. According to the consultancy Analytica, the figure represents a real year-on-year increase of 35.5 percent, and in June alone, the month the tournament began, 13.656 billion pesos, more than 9 million dollars, were collected, the highest amount of the year so far.
The analysis shows that the first half accounted for almost 77 percent of all revenue collected in 2025, a year that totaled 93.658 billion pesos, approximately 62.6 million dollars. The monthly progression showed a continuous upward trend, with collections starting at around 11 billion pesos in January and February and steadily increasing to the June peak, a trajectory that consolidated the growth of the tax throughout the semester.
According to data released by the newspaper El Cronista, the City of Buenos Aires registered deposits on legal platforms located there for just over 50 billion pesos, more than 33.4 million dollars, between January and the World Cup final, a period in which the volume of bets increased by 80 percent. In the same period, a 21 percent increase was detected in the number of players who bet on platforms authorized to operate in the city, while the daily average of deposits went from 1.4 billion pesos before the competition to 2.6 billion during the tournament, reflecting a greater incorporation of users during the period.
