Online betting tax almost equals all of 2025
In just seven months, the indirect tax on online betting and gaming in Argentina has already collected almost as much as in all of 2025. Between January and July, the tax gathered 89.627 billion pesos, approximately 59.9 million dollars, a figure that represents 95.7 percent of the 93.658 billion, about 62.6 million dollars, that it had generated during the entirety of last year. This data comes from the Tax and Customs Control Agency and was processed by the consultancy Analytica.
The boost in July was decisive. That month, the tax generated 17.798 billion pesos, approximately 11.9 million dollars, with a real increase of 27.8 percent compared to June and a year-on-year growth of 50.5 percent, which Analytica's director, Claudio Caprarulo, described as the largest monthly jump since records for this tax began. The year-on-year comparison is also telling: in the same period of 2025, collections had been 48.079 billion pesos, about 32.1 million dollars.
The World Cup held in July acted as a catalyst. In the City of Buenos Aires, deposits on authorized platforms exceeded 50.000 billion pesos, approximately 33.4 million dollars, between January and the tournament final, and during the competition, the proportion of bets placed with authorized operators increased by 80 percent while the number of players grew by 21 percent. The average daily deposits went from about 1.400 billion pesos, close to 936,000 dollars, before the tournament, to around 2.600 billion, about 1.7 million dollars, during the Cup.
However, the consultancy warned that the upward curve did not begin with the World Cup. Caprarulo stated that the trend was already on the rise and attributed it to the consolidation of the digital ecosystem, increased advertising exposure, and the socioeconomic context. The signal had become visible in the first half of the year, when between January and June the tax had already contributed 71.828 billion pesos, equivalent to 76.7 percent of what was collected in all of 2025, a pace that July's results only accelerated.
