The AJ intervenes an unauthorized poker game in La Paz
Three poker tables, chips, and playing cards were the result of the operation with which the Bolivian Gaming Control Authority (Autoridad de Fiscalización del Juego de Bolivia) interrupted an unauthorized poker activity in the city of La Paz. The agency reported that the intervention is part of its control and oversight actions aimed at combating illegal gambling and preventing the continuation of activities operating outside current regulations.
The entity stated that it is intensifying oversight to prevent illegal gambling and protect citizens from the risks associated with this type of activity, and urged the public to report locations where unauthorized games are being played.
The procedure is part of a series of recent interventions. In the vicinity of the Third Ring Road in Santa Cruz, the AJ closed down a venue operating without an operator's license and seized 41 gaming devices, including 37 machines, wallets, four poker tables, chips, and playing cards. In a residential area in the northwest of Cochabamba, an establishment where unauthorized poker games were being held was also intervened, suggesting a pattern of clandestine offerings distributed across the country's main cities.
The Gaming Control Authority is the body responsible for regulating, authorizing, and overseeing games of chance, lotteries, and business promotions in Bolivia, created under Law 060 on Lottery and Games of Chance, enacted in 2010.
