153,000+ requested self-exclusion in first 20 days on federal platform
The launch of the federal platform for self-exclusion from sports betting in Brazil is already showing a significant impact. In just 20 days of operation, more than 153,000 people requested from the federal government the voluntary blocking of their access to online betting sites, which amounts to an average of five requests per minute, according to official data released by the Ministry of Finance.
The system allows the user to centrally exclude themselves from all of the approximately 200 authorized betting brands legally operating in the country. Once activated, the measure prevents access to the platforms during the chosen period, without the need to carry out individual procedures with each operator. The tool is part of the responsible gaming policies outlined in the new regulatory framework of the Brazilian market.
Mental health and data protection, the main reasons
According to official information, the primary reason declared for requesting self-exclusion was loss of control over gambling linked to mental health, an option selected in 34% of cases. The second most common reason was concern for personal data protection, mentioned in 28% of requests, by users seeking to prevent their information from being used by betting platforms.
The figures reflect that, alongside the growth of the regulated market, concerns related to emotional well-being and players’ digital exposure are also intensifying.
Majority opt for indefinite blocking
At the time of making the request, the user can define the duration of the self-exclusion. Available options include one, three, six, or nine months, as well as one year or an indefinite period. The trend is clear: 76% of people chose a block without an end date, while 17% opted for exclusion for one year.
A preventive and centralized tool
According to the official description, the platform is aimed at those who “feel that gambling has started to negatively affect their life or has become a concern.” Its main differentiator is the centralized nature, which guarantees the automatic application of the block across all authorized platforms.
The initial results suggest that self-exclusion has quickly established itself as one of the most relevant instruments of the Brazilian responsible gaming model, offering users a direct and effective way to regain control over their relationship with online betting.
