19% of Brazilian internet users bet online in 2025, study shows

A new survey by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) showed that 19 percent of Brazilian internet users placed online bets in the three months prior to data collection. The report, published this Tuesday the 9th, analyzed the digital behavior of the 157 million connected Brazilians.

The research is part of the TIC Domicilios series, a study celebrating 20 years that between March and August 2025 interviewed 24,535 people in 27,177 households across the country. For the first time, the edition included specific questions about Brazilians' relationship with digital betting.

How Brazilians bet in the online environment

The results reveal marked differences between men and women in the use of betting platforms. Among men who use the internet, 25 percent reported having bet in the three previous months, while among women the figure was 14 percent.

The study also shows that 8 percent of Brazilians participated in online casino games during the analyzed period. Additionally, 7 percent paid to participate in digital raffles or sweepstakes, and another 7 percent placed sports bets.

Sports betting is the category with the greatest gender inequality: only 2 percent of women said they bet in this modality, compared to 12 percent of men. Meanwhile, 7 percent of respondents bet on federal lotteries.

Renata Mielli, coordinator of the Internet Steering Committee in Brazil (CGI.br), pointed out that the results reinforce the need to strengthen regulatory mechanisms and expand digital education to warn about the risks associated with online gambling.

Internet access continues to grow in Brazilian households

The study also confirms the expansion of digital access in the last decade. Currently, 86 percent of the country’s households have internet connection, a significant jump compared to the 51 percent recorded ten years ago. In 2025, 85 percent of the population accessed the network, representing 157 million connected people.

Still, the country maintains a contingent of 28 million non-users. This group is mainly concentrated among people with schooling up to primary education, black or brown population, and people over 60 years old.

Other digital habits highlighted by the survey

The TIC Domicilios also revealed that 75 percent of Brazilians made payments or transfers via PIX, consolidating its widespread use. On the other hand, 39 percent said they ran out of mobile data at least once in the last three months.

Fifty-six percent of respondents accessed or asked someone to access the Gov.br portal to carry out public procedures, confirming the growth of digital government services.

Regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, 32 percent of Brazilians said they had used one. Among them, 84 percent used it for personal purposes, 53 percent for school activities, and 50 percent for professional tasks.
