Brazil Central Bank's New Financial Tracking Code for Betting
The Central Bank of Brazil has taken a decisive step to strengthen surveillance over the monetary flows generated by the digital gaming industry. Through the recent BCB Resolution Number 561/2026, the monetary authority has formalized the creation of a specific classification aimed at exclusively identifying international financial operations linked to fixed-odds sports betting. This regulation, which will come into force on October 1, 2026, seeks to provide the State with more precise tools to supervise capital movements and ensure that the sector's growth effectively translates into tax revenue.
Under this new regulatory scheme, all transactions processed through the Electronic Exchange (eFX) system that are related to iGaming must be identified with code 34045. The implementation of this financial tag is not an isolated measure but responds to the need to improve the traceability of cross-border payments in a market that has rapidly climbed positions in the Brazilian economy. According to Central Bank authorities, differentiating these activities will allow for more rigorous fiscalization and serve as an efficient shield against tax evasion and money laundering.
Record figures and sustained growth in revenue in the Brazilian market
The adoption of this new tracking code coincides with a period of boom in public revenue from regulated gambling. The latest reports from the Receita Federal indicate that Brazil has collected unprecedented sums during the first months of the year. In March 2026 alone, the tax contribution from betting and lottery operators reached 859 million reais, consolidating an extraordinary first quarter for state coffers with accumulated revenue of 3.4 billion reais, a figure equivalent to more than 680 million dollars.
This financial performance represents an increase of 123.7 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025, demonstrating the positive impact of a stable regulatory framework and a base of operators that has formalized under local laws. Tax auditors such as Claudemir Malaquias and Marcelo Gomide have pointed out that these results reflect the consolidation of a system that offers legal certainty to companies and transparency to the State. The monthly evolution, with 1.49 billion reais contributed in January and more than 1.04 billion in February, places the gaming industry as one of the sectors with the highest revenue dynamism in the country.
Evolution of the tax burden and projections for the close of the 2026 fiscal year
A determining factor in this increase in revenue has been the adjustment in tax policy that came into effect at the beginning of this year. The tax rate on Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) was raised from 12 to 13 percent, a progressive increase that, according to technical estimates, will begin to show its full impact on financial reports from May onwards. This tax burden is added to other fiscal commitments that authorized companies must promptly fulfill, such as PIS/PASEP, Cofins, Corporate Income Tax, and the Social Contribution on Net Profit.
The Receita Federal's projections for the close of 2026 are extremely optimistic, expecting to significantly exceed the 9.95 billion reais generated by the regulated market during 2025. With the implementation of the tracking code in October, the Brazilian government hopes not only to sustain these revenue levels but also to qualify the financial information available to make future regulatory adjustments. The commitment to total traceability seems to be the definitive strategy to turn Brazil into a global benchmark for efficient regulation and monetary control in the iGaming industry.
