Brazil officially announces 80 clubs for Timemania lottery until 2028
The Brazilian Ministry of Sport has taken a fundamental step towards the financial stability of national football by publishing the definitive list of 80 professional clubs that will be part of Timemania for the 2026-2028 biennium. This measure, formalized by MESP Ordinance No. 32, will come into effect on May 2 and ensures that the country's most relevant sports institutions continue to access one of the most stable income sources in the lottery sector. The program, operated by Caixa Econômica Federal, is consolidated as a state support tool that allows teams to manage their liabilities while offering an entertainment option with high popular appeal.
The selection of participating teams responds to a meritocratic and geographical criterion that guarantees federal representation of Brazil's most popular sport. The regulations prioritize institutions that have competed in the Brazilian Championship Series A and B during the last two years, also including regional champions with significant historical weight. In this new phase, the list includes giants such as Flamengo, Palmeiras, Santos, and São Paulo, but also opens the door to Serie C clubs and prominent teams in the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) ranking, covering states such as Piauí, Tocantins, and the Federal District.
A financial engine against tax debts
The main objective of Timemania is not only to reward bettors but to act as a lifeline for club finances. The distribution scheme establishes that 22 percent of the total collection is allocated directly to the institutions on the list. These resources have a specific and mandatory purpose: the payment of debts to the social security system, the labor guarantee fund, and various national taxes. By linking the success of the lottery to the financial recovery of the teams, the Brazilian State ensures the operational continuity of the clubs and reduces the risk of insolvency in the promotion categories.
Game dynamics and fan participation
For the bettor, the Timemania experience combines numerical strategy with passion for their team's colors. Participants must select 10 numbers from a universe of 80 and choose their "team of the heart." Draws are held three times a week, drawing seven numbers and a winning club. This modality has proven to be highly effective in building fan loyalty, as participating in the lottery is perceived as a direct way to financially help their favorite club, strengthening the emotional bond between fans and the administrative management of the teams.
This new list will be valid for an uninterrupted two years.
