The Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Commission of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has received a formal request to open a deep debate on the digital betting market through a public hearing. The initiative, presented under requirement REQ 206/2026 by a group of federal legislators, seeks to exhaustively analyze current oversight mechanisms and the effectiveness of combating operators acting outside the legal framework. Deputies Adriana Accorsi, Alencar Santana, Alexandre Lindenmeyer, and Carol Dartora base their petition on the need to address critical vulnerabilities such as money laundering and the protection of citizens in a constantly expanding digital environment.
This legislative movement is not limited solely to operational supervision but also aims to scrutinize the central points of Bill Number 1.808/2026, a proposal that suggests a total ban on fixed-odds betting in Brazilian territory. During the hearing, representatives are expected to evaluate whether the current model guarantees the integrity of the sector or if, on the contrary, it requires an absolute restriction to curb risks associated with sports match-fixing and other fraudulent conduct. The discussion gains particular relevance at a time when Brazil has consolidated itself as one of the most influential iGaming markets globally.

The proposal contemplates that the hearing be held in conjunction with the Financial Supervision and Control Commission, involving the main technical and security bodies of the State to obtain a comprehensive view of the phenomenon. Among the invited participants are the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Court of Accounts, the Federal Police, and the Attorney General's Office. This common front of public institutions aims to diagnose the real impact of gambling on household finances, especially given the increase in Brazilian household debt.
In addition to financial aspects, the parliamentary debate will focus on the possible connections between the uncontrolled growth of digital platforms and organized crime structures. Legislators insist that the social dimension of the problem cannot be ignored, so the participation of the Secretariat of Social Communication and the Ministry of Justice will be key to designing prevention and awareness strategies.
