Brazil's SPB reaffirms user rights in regulated market

On the occasion of Consumer Day, celebrated on March 15, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance has reinforced guidelines on the rights that protect bettors in the fixed-odds market. The agency highlighted that the transition to a regulated environment guarantees a formal consumer relationship where citizens have specific and protected rights.

Daniele Corrêa Cardoso, secretary of the SPA, emphasized that informing users about their guarantees and the inherent risks of the activity is an essential pillar of the sector's public policy.

Fundamental Guarantees for the Regulated Bettor

Current regulations require authorized operators to comply with strict user protection standards:

Responsible Gambling Tools and Conflict Resolution

Brazilian regulation places special emphasis on consumer health through the mandatory implementation of control tools. Users must have the ability to set time limits, establish betting money caps, and access self-exclusion options if they decide to interrupt their activity on the platform.

In case of any irregularity, the SPA recommends following this protocol:

  1. Initially contact the platform's own Customer Service (SAC).
  2. If the problem persists, escalate the complaint through the official platform Consumidor.gov.br or to the relevant consumer protection agencies.

Financial Education and Free Training

In a joint effort with the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), the SPA makes a free virtual course available to citizens. This training, available on the website of the National School of Consumer Defense, offers digital certification and addresses critical topics such as the functioning of the regulated market, responsible gambling principles, mental health, and financial education applied to betting.
