Loterías CAIXA grows 5.4% and allocates R$5.530 million to social causes
Social allocations from CAIXA Lotteries saw a jump in the first half of 2026, reaching R$5.53 billion (US$1.08 billion), compared to R$4.42 billion (US$866 million) in the same period of the previous year. This increase was supported by revenue that grew 5.4 percent year-on-year to R$12.19 billion (US$2.39 billion), with the second quarter alone contributing R$6.23 billion (US$1.22 billion) and improving by 2.6 percent.
Social Security was the main destination for these resources, receiving R$2.05 billion. Following were public security, with R$1.16 billion, sports, with R$891 million, culture, with R$341 million, and education, with R$168 million. Added to this flow were R$1.37 billion (US$268 million) in income tax applied to prizes, 31.8 percent more than a year earlier, meaning that between allocations and taxes, federal lotteries generated approximately R$6.9 billion (US$1.35 billion) for public purposes in the semester.
The regulated fixed-odds betting market also showed growth in the same period. According to the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance, the sector's gross revenue totaled R$20.07 billion (US$3.93 billion), 15.3 percent above the R$17.4 billion (US$3.41 billion) from the first half of 2025. Betting companies allocated R$2.49 billion to public policies and social purposes during this period, representing 12.4 percent of their gross revenue, with sports being the main beneficiary, receiving R$870.15 million. The figures from CAIXA and those from betting cannot be directly compared, as they measure different concepts.
CAIXA Lotteries are operated by Caixa Econômica Federal, the public bank that manages Brazil's federal lotteries, including Mega-Sena, Quina, and Lotofácil, and whose revenue is distributed by law among prizes, taxes, and social destinations. The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting, which publishes data for the fixed-odds segment, is part of the Ministry of Finance and has overseen the regulated market since its launch in January 2025.
