A real gap in the market
According to Azevedo, the creation of SOS Jogador responded to a concrete problem in the Brazilian industry.
“SOS Jogador arose from a specific gap in the Brazilian market: the player, especially in situations of greater vulnerability, did not have an effective channel to resolve conflicts with betting platforms.”
The initiative was born in 2023 as a support group for people who wanted to stop gambling, offering guidance and emotional support, accompanied by specialized psychologists. Over that period, more than 5,000 people were assisted. With the sector's accelerated growth and the increase in operational and financial conflicts, the project evolved into a structured model of direct mediation between player and operator.

From regulation to daily practice
Although regulatory progress is seen as positive, practical experience reveals significant limitations.
“The existence of rules does not guarantee their effective application,” explains Azevedo. “There is still a gap between regulation and the reality players experience.”
In the founder’s assessment, the measures adopted by the government represent relevant advances, especially by recognizing responsible gaming as a pillar of the regulated market, but they are not sufficient on their own.
“There is a lack of continuous oversight, standardization of behaviors, and, above all, accessible pathways for players to exercise their rights when something goes wrong. It is at this point that initiatives like SOS Jogador become necessary as a complement to the State’s role.”
Extrajudicial mediation as a protection tool
SOS Jogador acts in recurring cases in the online market, such as blocked or closed accounts, retained balances, cancellation of winnings, contractual discrepancies, technical failures, pirated games, or requests for financial compensation. Whenever the conflict can be resolved through a direct agreement, the platform intervenes as a mediator.
The procedure is simple and transparent: the player files their complaint, receives guidance on their rights, and the betting house has a deadline to respond. If there is no solution, SOS Jogador acts directly in the negotiation. The service will apply only a 25% success fee on the amounts effectively recovered.
A viable channel for vulnerable players
From the player’s perspective, especially the more vulnerable, the model removes traditional barriers to defending their rights. There are no initial costs, no financial risk, and the process is considerably faster than traditional judicial action.
Azevedo highlights that many conflicts could be resolved with technical dialogue and good faith.
“Today, many conflicts are simple but become unsolvable due to a lack of dialogue. SOS Jogador exists precisely to fulfill that role of technical mediation oriented towards agreement.”
Good reception among operators
On the operators’ side, the response has been largely positive.
“Many operators understand that extrajudicial negotiation is more efficient than judicial conflict. Resolving disputes quickly reduces costs, avoids reputational damage, and preserves the relationship with the client.”
According to the founder, although there are different levels of maturity in the market, the dialogue has been productive, especially with operators committed to good practices and sector sustainability.
Priorities to protect the player
When asked about the most urgent measures to protect players in Brazil, Azevedo points out three central points:
“First, the effective enforcement of responsible gaming policies, especially self-exclusion and risk monitoring. When these tools fail, the impact on the player is immediate and profound.”
“Second, the existence of accessible and independent conflict resolution channels, so that the player does not have to resort directly to the judiciary.”
“Third, real operational transparency, with clear rules and consistency between the offer, terms, and practice. Experience shows that most conflicts handled by SOS Jogador arise precisely from that lack of clarity.”
A complementary role to that of the State
While recognizing the central role of the State in regulation and oversight, Azevedo argues that independent initiatives are fundamental.
“In an ideal scenario, the player would not need a tool like SOS Jogador. However, reality shows that even in regulated markets, players remain the most vulnerable party. SOS Jogador does not replace the State; it acts where the State cannot be present in every concrete conflict.”
Looking to the future
In the short and medium term, SOS Jogador’s focus is to consolidate the model in Brazil, refine mediation flows, and generate data that help the market correct recurring failures. International expansion is not ruled out.
“In the medium term, expansion to other countries is a natural possibility, especially in markets undergoing regulation. The model is replicable because it is based on mediation, transparency, and alignment of incentives.”
