SPA maintains 40 proceedings against operators in Brazil
Brazil's Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) currently has 40 administrative sanctioning processes open against operators in the sector, a number that became apparent after the agency provisionally suspended 14 sports betting sites last week. According to the Ministry of Finance, these measures respond to the risks that these platforms pose to regulation, bettors, and the legal market itself.
The volume of cases is not new. Between May 2025 and May 2026, 39 complaints were completed, with infractions ranging from obstruction of inspections and the development of prohibited activities to the failure to provide information or documentation required by the regulator. The sanctions foreseen for these non-compliances cover a range that starts with warnings and fines and can lead to the suspension of sportsbooks.
The most recent suspension affected 14 sites, after the Secretariat initiated proceedings against their operators for non-compliance related to the submission of information and documents, a deficiency that hindered the Government's supervision and control tasks. The affected sites are managed by Pixbet, Zeroumbet, Enseada, Select, Nexus, and RR Participações, and the measure will remain in effect until investigations are concluded and the Treasury certifies that the companies meet the requirements.
During the suspension, these sites must display a specific notice to users and only allow access necessary for bettors to withdraw their funds, without the possibility of continuing to operate. Non-compliance with the decision exposes companies to a daily fine of 200,000 reais, approximately 38,800 dollars.
The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting is the body within the Ministry of Finance that regulates, authorizes, and supervises fixed-odds betting in Brazil since the launch of the legal market. This round of suspensions is part of a phase of increased oversight that has included operations against sector groups and the review of compliance by authorized companies, in a market that the Government has been tightening with increasingly strict controls.
