Chilean casinos contributed 53 million dollars in taxes
Every peso Chilean casinos leave in taxes follows a different path depending on its origin. The specific gaming levy, which between April and June totalled 20,787 million pesos, close to 23.1 million dollars, is split in equal parts between regional governments and the municipalities that host halls, earmarked for local development works. The rest of the fiscal burden, by contrast, feeds the general coffers of the Nation.
That second group includes the activity's value-added tax, which contributed 20,067 million pesos, some 22.3 million dollars, and the levy paid by those entering the halls, which left 6,657 million pesos, around 7.4 million dollars. Adding the three items, tax collection for the second quarter reached 47,511 million pesos, equivalent to some 52.8 million dollars, according to the balance released by the Gaming Casinos Superintendency.
Behind those figures lay a quarter of sustained activity. The establishments recorded gross gaming income of 135,517 million pesos, close to 150.7 million dollars, of which the bulk, 125,681 million, corresponded to the 22 casinos operating under law 19,995, while the three municipal casinos completed the remaining 9,836 million, some 10.6 million dollars.
The activity rested on 1,436,159 visits counted in the period, of which the vast majority, 1,346,073, went to the halls regulated by law 19,995 and the rest to the municipal ones. With those numbers, each visitor to the casinos authorised by that rule spent on average 93,369 pesos, around 105 dollars. Looking at the quarter's close, June alone left gross income of 42,473 million pesos, some 47 million dollars, with 449,000 visits and 6,504 million pesos, close to 7.2 million dollars, in specific tax.
