Drug raid in Chile uncovers an illegal casino
The casino was not the target of the operation. The Atacama Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Police raided five homes in the Chilean commune of Tierra Amarilla to dismantle drug sales points, arrested five people, and, inside one of those residences, stumbled upon thirteen gaming machines in operation.
The discovery was enough to confirm the operation of an illegal gambling hall. According to prosecutor Sebastián Coya, one of the investigated individuals had set up a kind of informal casino in his house, allowing neighbors from the same residential area to enter. The thirteen machines were seized along with the rest of the material from the procedure, which included 1,505 doses of narcotics, a blank-firing weapon modified to fire live ammunition, and more than 2 million Chilean pesos in cash.
The indictment against this defendant combines three fronts. In addition to charges for drug trafficking and violation of the Arms Law, customs receiving is added, because he could not present documentation to support the origin of the slot machines.
