Chile's CPC warns about unregulated online gambling
The Confederation of Production and Commerce of Chile published a report on illegal economies, titled "For a Chile without an Illicit Economy," in which it referred to the operation of online gaming platforms and called for the absence of a regulatory framework for the sector.
According to the report, the sector's gross revenue reached $625 million in 2025 and, according to estimates by H2 Gambling Capital, this figure would double by 2030 to reach $1.445 billion. These amounts exceeded the revenue of the 25 casinos legally operating in Chile, which received $588 million in 2024. At the time the report was finalized, the guild noted, these online platforms are not regulated in the country, so their activity does not pay taxes and they operate illegally.
The entity stated that these platforms compete unfairly with the formal market and that some of them function as vehicles for money laundering, using payment methods with low traceability and without effective controls, with an impact it described as broad and multidimensional.
As a proposal, the CPC recommended advancing in the discussion, improvement, and approval of the law that regulates the development of online betting platforms, in order to put an end to those currently operating illegally, formalize the market with high standards of demand, and increase revenue. It also suggested that the regulation should include adequate mechanisms for the protection of minors and vulnerable people, and with the necessary tools to supervise and punish those who operate illegally. The guild also requested setting the applicable tax rate and approving the Economic Intelligence Subsystem Law, especially regarding gaming machines and the regulation of online betting platforms.
