Bogotá Lottery & Fedelco thwart counterfeit ticket network in Colombia
The Bogotá Lottery, together with the Federation of Lotteries of Colombia, known as Fedelco, celebrated the results of the judicial operation called Los Andariegos, which led to the dismantling of a gang dedicated to counterfeiting lottery tickets. The action was carried out simultaneously on May 4 in Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali, and was presented by sector entities as a milestone in the defense of public faith and the legality of gambling in the country.
During the procedure, arrests were made and evidentiary material was seized, which included banknotes in various denominations and counterfeit lottery tickets ready for distribution. The operation joined a series of recent actions against fraud in the Colombian market, where illegal gambling continues to be a growing concern for regulators, operators, and financial control entities.
The impact of the case goes beyond the arrests. As highlighted by the Bogotá Lottery in its statement, the main effect is the preservation of public resources, given that legally authorized games of chance represent one of the backbones of the financing of the Colombian health system. Every peso entered through legal gambling finances hospitals, programs, and medical services throughout the territory.
The institution also highlighted the role of citizens in the chain of legality. Likewise, it called on citizens to report any suspicious activity, in what it described as the first step to protect the health and hopes of bettors.
The case reinforces an increasingly active regional agenda. In Latin America, countries like Brazil, Peru, Chile, and Argentina face similar pressures to combat illegal markets, counterfeiting of gambling products, and evasion operations linked to the sector.
