Coljuegos announces the return of the Chiquinquirá Lottery
Coljuegos announced that, after 22 years, the Lotería de la Villa Republicana de Chiquinquirá has returned to the market in association with the Sorteo Extraordinario de Colombia. The draw will take place on September 19, and bettors can win up to 36.7 billion Colombian pesos, approximately 11 million dollars, in prizes.
According to Coljuegos president Marco Emilio Hincapié, the return is the result of joint work between the lottery sector and the National Council of Games of Luck and Chance, an agency that has been working to strengthen the industry in the territories. The official detailed that the sales projection for the draw is approximately 3 billion pesos, and they estimate to collect more than 360 million for the health of the municipality of Chiquinquirá. The approved prize plan includes a jackpot of 15 billion pesos, approximately 4.6 million dollars, and the ticket will cost 20,000 pesos and can be purchased nationwide.
Hincapié stated that the draw will not only be in the hearts of the inhabitants of the municipality and the department of Boyacá, but also in those of all Colombians, because the Virgen de Chiquinquirá is the patroness of Colombia. He also recalled that President Gustavo Petro sanctioned Law 2578 of 2026, which declared July 9 a national holiday in honor of the date on which the Virgen de Chiquinquirá was proclaimed patroness by Pope Pius VII in 1829.
Furthermore, the president of Coljuegos reiterated the importance of purchasing lottery tickets only at authorized points of sale.
