Coljuegos creates a Judicial Police Unit to fight against illegality
Coljuegos, the regulator of games of chance and gambling in Colombia, announced the creation of a Judicial Police Unit aimed at strengthening actions against illegality in the industry and protecting the resources that this activity contributes to the country's health system.
The new structure was established through Resolution 20250022644, issued on October 6, 2025. With it, the entity is enabled to exercise judicial police functions within criminal investigations, always under the coordination of the Attorney General's Office. The objective is to ensure the proper preservation of evidence, secure material probative elements, and directly contribute to judicial processes.
The president of Coljuegos, Marco Emilio Hincapié, highlighted the importance of the announcement:
“This Unit is a decisive advance to strengthen our capacity for monitoring, control, and oversight of all gaming modalities in Colombia. It will allow us to confront evasion, fraud, and clandestine operations with greater force,” he stated.
Capabilities and functions of the new Unit
With this change, Coljuegos will be able to carry out tasks that previously depended on third parties, such as:
- Collection and securing of evidence.
- Technical inspections in the field.
- Digital forensic analysis.
- Specialized interviews and proceedings.
Thanks to trained personnel and its own operational protocols, the entity will be able to respond immediately to complaints or alerts about possible irregularities.
The Unit will be attached to the Vice Presidency of Operations and will have officials specialized in controlling illegal operations, oversight, legal advice, and technical analysis. Additionally, it will be able to coordinate actions with other State bodies — including the Attorney General's Office — to protect the state monopoly on gaming, whose resources finance the subsidized health system.
Principles and institutional commitment
The resolution that creates this Unit establishes principles such as human dignity, legality, impartiality, efficiency, specialized technical investigation, and timeliness, which will guide all judicial police actions within Coljuegos.
“The commitment is clear: more oversight, more transparency, and zero tolerance toward illegality. This Unit will allow us to act with an active presence in the territory and professionally gather evidence, responding firmly to those who seek to undermine the authorized gaming system in Colombia,” assured Hincapié.
With this initiative, Coljuegos reaffirms its role as an institutional leader in sector regulation, as well as its responsibility in protecting public resources derived from legal gaming, which are transformed into investment for the health of millions of Colombians.
