Coljuegos fines an influencer for running an illegal game
Coljuegos' sanction against content creator Yeferson Esteban Cossio Castaño did not end with money. Along with a fine of 116 million pesos, some 38,000 dollars, the resolution imposed a five-year ban on operating games of chance, counted from when the administrative act becomes final. The fine amount is equivalent to one hundred minimum legal wages of 2023, when the minimum stood at 1,160,000 pesos, close to 380 dollars.
The case originated from a complaint over promotional activities disseminated on Instagram and led the regulator to declare Cossio responsible for illegally operating a game of chance in the raffle modality, without the corresponding authorisation. As the entity explained, it verified the sanctioned party held no valid authorisation for that modality and therefore advanced with the stages of investigation, formulation of charges, defence and closing arguments.
The sanction is part of a broader offensive against illegal operation on social networks. Coljuegos specified it has already requested the blocking of 437 profiles dedicated to promoting and operating games of chance outside the law, and reaffirmed it will keep working to close those spaces, enforce the rules and protect the resources that the legal activity allocates to the population's wellbeing.
