Coljuegos transfers US$301m to health after 39% growth until August
The Football World Cup is making its mark on Colombia's healthcare accounts. Sports betting placed through online operators grew by 84.24 percent between January and August, and this is the main reason why Coljuegos will transfer COP977.220m, approximately US$301m, to the subsidized healthcare regime, a 39.38 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The difference in pesos amounts to COP276.099m, around US$85m, compared to the COP701.121m (US$216m) collected by the regulator last year. For the entity, these figures speak to its own efficiency and the current state of the sector.
The impact of the digital channel was evident. Online gaming contributed COP473.023m (US$145.9m) in eight months, almost half of the total transferred to healthcare, driven by a sports calendar that concentrated betting like few other times.
The land-based sector also grew, albeit at a different pace. Localized games increased from COP250.217m (US$77m) in the first period of 2025 to COP280.866m (US$86m) this year, a 12.25 percent advance.
Monopoly revenues complete the picture with consistent increases across almost all products: SuperAstro up 4.88 percent, Baloto up 13.17 percent, Baloto Revancha up 36.37 percent, and Miloto up 28.98 percent. The launch of Keno operations, a game still in its early commercial life, also contributed to this total.
The regulator announced that they will continue with strategies aimed at boosting the sector, combating illegality, and bringing more resources to the subsidized system.
Colombia has one of the most unique schemes in the region: by constitutional mandate, gaming revenue is allocated to public health, and Coljuegos is the body that administers the rentistic monopoly and grants licenses for both localized games and online operators. This architecture turns every collection report into a public health policy data point, in addition to a market one.
