Colombian influencer reported for promoting illegal gambling
Colombian influencer Stiven Tangarife Caicedo, known on social media as Mr. Stiven or MrStivenTc, has been reported to the Attorney General's Office for the alleged promotion of an online gambling platform that is not authorized to operate in the country. According to the legal action, the content creator allegedly used his social media reach to encourage user registration on a portal that is not among the operators authorized by Coljuegos, Colombia's gambling regulatory body.
Tangarife, who has over 5.4 million followers on Instagram, repeatedly posted stories with links to the kkbrio.com site, in addition to explaining how some of its games work and claiming that it was possible to easily make profits. For the complainants, these publications could have facilitated the acquisition of new users for an allegedly illegal platform.
Among the evidence provided is a series of videos published in the first days of June. In one released on June 2, the influencer appears promoting the portal's link while exercising and assures that he recommended the application many times, and on the same day he allegedly shared another video with the same reference from a bowling alley. The complaint also mentions a publication from June 5, in which Tangarife again recommended the platform and showed different available games, one of them identified as Fortune Gems500.
According to the document presented to the Attorney General's Office, these acts could constitute conduct related to the illicit exercise of a monopolistic activity and incitement to crime, and the possibility of alleged illicit enrichment is also raised, under the argument that the promoted platform would operate without authorization from Coljuegos. The Attorney General's Office will have to evaluate the evidence, including videos and other digital records, to determine if there are grounds to proceed with a criminal investigation. So far, Mr. Stiven has not publicly commented on the complaint.
