Jaime Vives Pinedo assumes the presidency of Coljuegos
Businessman Jaime Vives Pinedo has been appointed as the new president of Coljuegos, the state entity responsible for administering and regulating the revenue monopoly of games of luck and chance in Colombia, in a transition that marks a move from the private sector to national public administration, replacing Marco Emilio Hincapié. Vives Pinedo developed a significant part of his career in the business sector of the Magdalena department, where he was associated with Grupo Biocosta and participated in various guild and business forums in the region. The Santa Marta Chamber of Commerce for Magdalena lists him as a member of its board of directors, representing Biocosta Green Energy.
From the presidency of the organization, he will be responsible for leading a key entity for the functioning of the regulated gambling industry in the country, as well as for overseeing activities carried out outside the authorized framework. One of the main focuses of the new administration will be to strengthen control mechanisms over unauthorized activities, a challenge that gains special relevance in a market that includes physical establishments, sports betting, and various forms of digital gaming.
The fight against illegal gambling also has a dimension linked to market competition conditions, as the presence of unauthorized operators can affect companies that comply with the regulatory and tax obligations established by Colombian legislation. Therefore, the entity must continue to advance in identifying and controlling operations that function outside the regulated system while maintaining supervision over authorized operators. Another central aspect of the management will be monitoring the revenue generated by the industry, given that authorized operators must pay exploitation rights, resources that constitute a source of funding for the Colombian healthcare system.
