Quindío Lottery to resume draws on August 20
The Lotería del Quindío now has a date to end the involuntary cessation of its activities. As confirmed by the departmental government, the official forecast is that the entity will resume its ordinary draws starting August 20, after almost four months of commercial and administrative inactivity. The resumption comes after a period of suspension of the ordinary schedule, made official at the end of April through an agreement of the National Council of Games of Luck and Chance, when the institution did not have the minimum technical reserve required by the regulatory framework to guarantee coverage for at least one major prize.
The governor of Quindío, Juan Miguel Galvis, emphasized that the reactivation represented an unavoidable commitment for the administration and stated that the authorities' obligation was for the lottery to continue operating, with a relevant role due to its contribution to health. The governor also stressed that, despite the operational difficulties and the resources required for regularization, the alternative of definitively closing the entity was ruled out, which he defined as a heritage of the people of Quindío for which work continued.
For its part, the entity's management, led by Ricardo Emilio Muñoz Arbeláez, explained that the pause was used to advance internal administrative, technical, and financial procedures, with the aim of updating regulatory requirements to formalize the reopening request before the regulatory body and resume commercialization in the local market. The lottery had completed the required procedures and certifications and managed contributions and budgetary additions through the Departmental Assembly to consolidate its financial strength.
If the restart on August 20 materializes, the entity seeks to re-establish the delivery of its usual major prize and reactivate a constant flow of sales that, in a normal year, exceeds 22 billion pesos, about 6.5 million dollars.
