Lotteries, chance inject >$177M to fund public health
Coljuegos confirmed that territorial games transferred nearly 650 billion pesos in 2025. The sector grew by 24% in the last three years, consolidating itself as a key pillar for the hospital network.
The health of Colombians received a vital oxygen tank thanks to legal gaming. The regulatory entity Coljuegos presented its annual report and confirmed that, during 2025, the territorial games segment transferred a total of COP 649.465 billion. This figure, which exceeds USD 177 million, is exclusively allocated to strengthening medical care and hospital infrastructure in the most needy municipalities.
The report covers the performance of chance games, traditional lottery, and the instant Raspa&Listo. According to Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, the numbers show that the industry is an indispensable social financing mechanism. Between 2022 and 2025, the resources generated grew by 24%. Looking only at the last year, the increase was 5.9% compared to 2024, which translates into about COP 36 billion extra for public coffers.
Chance leads, but lotteries are more efficient
Breaking down the contribution pie, Chance remains the heavyweight of the sector. This modality transferred COP 337.068 billion (USD 91.7 million) to subsidized health, showing a 25% rebound compared to figures from three years ago.
Meanwhile, the traditional lotteries contributed COP 276.794 billion (USD 75.3 million). What is interesting here is that they recorded the highest relative growth in the market, since they allocate a higher percentage of their sales to health compared to other games. In this category, the lotteries of Medellín, Boyacá, and Bogotá took the podium, together transferring more than COP 136 billion.
Million-dollar prizes for players
The system works because trust remains intact. Besides what the State took, bettors also won. During 2025, these games paid out prizes totaling COP 1.68 trillion (around USD 457 million).
Hincapié concluded that this increase in transfers is the result of the work of the National Council of Games of Chance and Gambling to shield the legal sector. For 2026, the goal is to continue energizing the industry so that gaming remains synonymous with health for Colombians.
