Risaralda Lottery grew 9.5% in Q2 and exceeds its annual target
Lotería del Risaralda presented to its Board of Directors the results for the second quarter of 2026, which show a year-on-year sales growth of 9.5%, significantly exceeding the 3% target set for the year. This performance adds to the close of 2025 with a 19% increase, consolidating a sustained expansion trend that the entity attributes to its strategy of channel diversification and geographical presence.
Sandra Lucía Ospina, the lottery's commercial head, explained the scope of the result: "We showed a quarterly sales growth, comparing April, May, and June with the previous year, of 9.5 percent. This is extremely positive considering that we programmed ourselves to grow by 3 percent this year." The executive attributed the performance to the commercial team's work in different regions of the country, combined with sustained investment in technological modernization.
One of the most significant advances during the period was the growth of the digital channel. The share of online sales increased from between 3.5% and 5% at the beginning of the current administration to a record 11% of the total commercialized in the first half. "Today, thanks to the implemented strategies and promotional activities on our digital platform, we have achieved that 11 percent of the total sales pie corresponds to the digital channel," Ospina highlighted. The geographical expansion covered departments such as Valle del Cauca, Tolima, Caldas, Quindío, the Atlantic Coast, and Risaralda.
In financial terms, Lotería del Risaralda accumulated sales exceeding COP 15.367 million (USD 4.5 million) in the first half, with prizes delivered to bettors totaling COP 5.237 million (USD 1.5 million). Although the jackpot was not awarded during the period, the entity distributed smaller prizes equivalent to the value of 2.2 jackpots, including two Risaralda Gordo prizes of COP 300 million (USD 90,000) each and the Mula Millonaria prize of COP 150 million (USD 45,000). The accumulated technical reserve is equivalent to four jackpots, reinforcing the financial soundness of the operation.
The performance of Lotería del Risaralda is a relevant indicator for the public lottery sector in Colombia and the region. The advance of the digital channel from 5% to 11% in a relatively short period demonstrates that state lotteries can compete in the online environment without needing radical transformations in their business model, provided they invest in accessible platforms and digital promotion strategies aimed at their regular player base. This learning is transferable to other Latin American lotteries that still rely almost exclusively on the physical channel.
