Vives Pinedo takes over at Coljuegos with illegality as a priority

Coljuegos now has an acting president. Jaime Vives Pinedo took office for the position he had been appointed to in August and is now at the helm of the entity that manages the revenue monopoly of games of chance in Colombia, a state-owned industrial and commercial enterprise whose resources are directed to the healthcare system.

The new head arrives with a career path formed outside the gambling sector. He is a business administrator graduated from Universidad Santo Tomas and completed a specialization in high management at Universidad del Magdalena. His resume includes more than 30 years in management positions within production and marketing companies, an experience he now brings to a regulatory body.

The priorities he announced upon taking office point in two directions. Vives Pinedo stated that his mission is to combat the scourge of illegality in the industry and increase the revenues allocated to the country's subsidized healthcare, adding to that agenda the strengthening of the collection of exploitation rights. The position gives him authority over land-based games and also over those operated online.

The handover concludes a transition that lasted almost two months. The decree formalizing the appointment was issued at the beginning of October, although the designation had been known since August, and the entity covered that period with an interim director. The challenge that the executive himself highlighted is not new for the regulator, which in recent years has focused its control activity on blocking unlicensed sites and pursuing unauthorized machines, two fronts where measuring economic damage remains the weakest point of public management.
