National Lottery DR: Gaming sector renewal is key
During the commemorative event for a new anniversary of the National Lottery of the Dominican Republic, its administrator, Teófilo “Quico” Tabar, once again emphasized the need for a profound renewal in the gambling sector, aligned with the bill presented by the Executive Branch.
Tabar stressed that “you cannot expect different results by doing the same things that have been done for years,” and advocated for the implementation of new methodologies, regulations, and a modern mindset that eliminate ineffective practices and historical distortions in gambling management.
The official recalled that President Luis Abinader entrusted the Advisory Council of the National Lottery with three main missions:
- Regularize the betting offices.
- Design a new regulatory model for gambling.
- Update the organic law of the National Lottery.
Tabar pointed out that the process of regularizing betting offices advanced significantly, with the registration of the majority of operators, although he acknowledged that external factors prevented its definitive conclusion. He also reported that the Gambling bill has already been drafted and sent to the National Congress, where its approval is awaited.
For its part, the project to update the National Lottery law is currently under review by the Legal Consultancy of the Executive Branch, which, according to Tabar, demonstrates compliance with the three presidential mandates assigned to his administration.
Finally, the administrator thanked President Abinader, the Advisory Council, and the sectors linked to gambling for their support, highlighting that his main goal is for the industry to operate under ethical, legal, and compliance principles.
Tabar concluded his message with a call for consensus: “Transparency and legitimacy in this sector are becoming increasingly urgent every day. The gambling actors themselves should be the first to promote the approval of the new bill, understanding that the world and circumstances have changed.”
