European football still drives gambling advertising

The sports marketing ecosystem in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region has reached a new historical peak thanks to the symbiosis between football and sportsbooks. According to the "Sponsorship Sector Report: Gambling & Betting – EMEA 2025" prepared by GlobalData, football consolidated its position last year as the dominant sponsorship platform for the sector, reaching an estimated investment value of 764.45 million dollars. This figure not only surpasses any other sports discipline but also confirms that football is the arena where business volume and profit margins are highest for global operators.

Sports analyst Olivia Snooks highlights that this preference is not coincidental but rather responds to the very nature of the modern betting product. The vast majority of live markets, dynamic odds, and instant betting products are structurally designed around football. The density of the competitive calendar, with national league matches and UEFA tournaments played almost daily, generates constant exposure windows that other, more occasional sports cannot offer. This continuity allows brands to activate odds promotions, shirt presence, and perimeter advertising uninterruptedly, maximizing return on investment.

The study details that, although the signing of new contracts experienced a slowdown from 2023 due to stricter regulations in key markets and the consolidation of large business groups, the quality and value of existing agreements have grown. Currently, full-season sponsorships represent 23% of the total value, guaranteeing concentrated rights and permanent exposure with an average contract value of 4.67 million dollars. Furthermore, direct agreements with clubs account for 45% of the industry's total spending, as they offer highly flexible assets ranging from kit branding to segmented digital campaigns to emotionally connect with the local fan base.

Within the select group of the ten most relevant sponsorships for 2025, the report places the historic alliance between bet365 and the UEFA Champions League at the top. This agreement, which began in August 2024 for the 2024-2027 cycle, has become the new benchmark for the industry. By associating with the most prestigious club competition in the world, the operator not only ensures massive global visibility but also redefines how sportsbooks integrate into the narrative of elite sports, demonstrating that, despite regulatory pressures, football remains the most valuable and secure asset for brand positioning in regulated markets.
