Luckia expands to TikTok, new ad channel for sports betting
Luckia Gaming Group became the first company in the sector to launch a sports betting campaign on TikTok. The Spanish operator kicked off the activation in its local market, making a move that goes beyond a specific advertising operation and marks a turning point in how sportsbooks interact with the fastest-growing global digital platforms.
Why TikTok and Why Now
The choice of platform is no coincidence. TikTok has established itself as one of the channels with the greatest reach, virality, and ability to build young audiences worldwide, a territory where betting brands have traditionally stayed on the sidelines due to the sector's inherent advertising restrictions. Luckia decided to move first and make its case, a move that aligns with its previous strategy of using unconventional channels, such as when it incorporated the Uber platform for promotional actions last year.
David Plumi, CMO of Luckia, framed the decision within a commitment to innovation and anticipating market trends. Being the first, said the executive, reflects a commitment to exploring new channels before they become saturated or regulatorily blocked. The company opted to establish the brand in an environment where most of its competition has not yet appeared, an window of opportunity that in digital advertising usually closes quickly.
A Phased Strategy
The activation begins with a first phase focused on branding and audience building within the platform. The stated objective is to generate awareness, learning, and brand notoriety, a pre-conversion stage that allows Luckia to understand how the TikTok audience responds to its messages before pushing more performance-driven campaigns. The idea is to progressively evolve towards a full-funnel strategy in the short and medium term.
The creative piece was developed together with Performics, Luckia's advertising partner for over seven years. This continuity allowed them to tackle the challenge of a new platform with a team that already understands the brand's tone and codes. The campaign also leverages strategic assets the company has been building, such as its sponsorship agreement with LALIGA, to enhance connection with international audiences and expand the global reach of the operation.
For LatAm, the move raises a question that regional operators will have to answer soon. Advertising frameworks for online betting are becoming stricter in much of the region, with limitations on social media advertising, time restrictions, and responsible gambling message obligations. TikTok appears in this context as a territory with rules yet to be written, and the first to successfully operate within the local regulatory framework will have a window of attention that will be difficult to replicate later.
