Peru blocks 50 platforms and accumulates 86 closures this year

The blocking of unlicensed platforms in Peru advanced with a new batch of 50 sites. The General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines (Dirección General de Juegos de Casino y Máquinas Tragamonedas), which reports to Mincetur, informed that these remote gaming and sports betting portals were serving Peruvian users without prior authorization. With this round, the accumulated total reaches 86 platforms removed from local access, against a target of 157 set until the end of 2026.
The technical execution does not depend solely on the sectoral regulator. The closure is processed jointly with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which transfers the restriction to internet providers, with Law N°31.557 as support. In parallel, oversight managed to take down gaming content and payment methods associated with these same sites, a blow that the ministry describes as direct against the economic viability and operational routine of those operating outside the law. According to the ministry, the illegal offering in the remote channel has been reduced by more than half.
The land-based front also saw activity. An establishment in the district of Chilca, in the Junín region, was raided by Mincetur personnel along with the Peruvian National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office, and equipment supporting clandestine sports betting was seized there. The accumulated balance includes the closure of 17 sports betting points and 10 slot machine halls, in addition to 5,195 inspections in slot machine halls and casinos and 4,572 reviews of betting platforms and halls.
The method by which the regulator finds its targets is the most revealing data of the operation. The DGJCMT maintains a repository of nearly 2,000 domains compiled from lists published by authorities in other countries, and uses it as a starting point to track active brands in the Peruvian market. This practice has become common in the region, where Chile, Brazil, and Colombia disseminate lists of banned sites that end up feeding into each other. What the ministry does not break down is the baseline for the reported decrease, so the more than 50 percent drop in the informal offering cannot be contrasted against a measured universe.
