Peruvian player profile: digital growth and betting habits

A new report from ENV Media reveals that the gaming market in Peru reached an estimated value of USD 2.5 billion in 2024, with an almost perfect balance between in-person betting (52%) and digital betting (48%). The study anticipates a sustained iGaming growth of 6.4% annually until 2028, driven by technological expansion, consumer maturity, and the expected consolidation of the national regulatory framework.

The gaming ecosystem in Peru is undergoing an accelerated transformation process. According to the report presented by ENV Media, the local gambling market reached USD 2.5 billion in 2024, a figure that reflects the sector's strength and its diversification between physical and digital channels.

Of that total, more than half (52%) came from in-person bets — in casinos, venues, and agencies — while 48% corresponded to online platforms, a segment growing at double-digit rates in penetration and transactional volume.

The consultancy projects that the iGaming market in the country will grow at an average annual rate of 6.4% until 2028, supported by greater digital connectivity, more agile payment methods, and the imminent formal regulation of online gaming.

An increasingly digital and diversified player

The study estimates that 6 million Peruvian adults — around 24% of the population — actively participate in gambling, of which 3.5 million bet through digital channels.

Regarding demographic profile, 70% of online bettors are men, a pattern that has remained stable in recent years. Lima concentrates the largest proportion of digital players, while in the provinces the preference for physical points of sale still prevails.

The research also identified differences in user motivations depending on the region:

Revenues, average ticket, and future trends

The average annual revenue per user (ARPU) in 2024 was USD 502.2 among Peruvian online players, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.6%. ENV Media expects this growth to remain in line with the advancement of the digital channel and product diversification, which are no longer limited solely to sports betting but also include slots, live casino, and skill games.

The average bet ticket was USD 80 overall and USD 100 in the online channel. However, the Peruvian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (CAPECE) anticipates that these figures could slightly decrease in the coming years as the frequency of play increases and more users prefer to place smaller, more regular bets.

An expanding market on the path to regulation

The Peruvian market continues to position itself as one of the most promising in Latin America, combining a solid user base with an increasingly competitive environment among local and international operators.

With the implementation of Law 31557 and its pending regulation, the sector expects greater legal stability and higher player protection standards, factors that will be key to sustaining the growth pace of iGaming in the country.
