The emblematic historic district of the Puerto Rican capital has marked a milestone in its tourism and entertainment offerings with the inauguration of the Gran Casino Viejo San Juan. This project, led by Grupo Orenes, represents the first establishment of its kind in the city's old town and required an initial investment of 11 million dollars. The opening not only diversifies recreational options for visitors but also boosts the local economy by creating approximately 200 jobs, including direct and indirect employment.
Strategically located next to the Hotel Rumbao, the new casino has been designed with a boutique format concept that seeks to integrate harmoniously into the historic environment. In its launch phase, the facilities offer a balanced selection that includes 64 state-of-the-art slot machines and 10 gaming tables for classics such as blackjack, American roulette, craps, and specialized modalities like Mini Baccarat EZ and World Poker Tour Heads Up. To energize the area's nightlife, the venue will operate extended hours until 4:00 AM from Sunday to Wednesday, extending its activity until 5:00 AM from Thursday to Saturday.

According to the executive, the aim is for visitors to find reasons to attend that go beyond betting, such as enjoying an elaborate cocktail, a quality dinner, or the broadcast of large-scale sporting events.
This approach is materialized in a first-class gastronomic offering led by chef Michael Bartemes, who has designed a menu that fuses Mediterranean influences with authentic Puerto Rican flavors. The space also features a central bar that serves as a social meeting point and a strategic collaboration with the local brewery Ocean Lab, reinforcing the casino's link with the island's production and culture. In this way, the establishment aims to become an engine of economic revitalization that enhances the existing tourist assets in Old San Juan.
Expansion plans and international consolidation of Grupo Orenes
Although the opening already represents a significant advance, the project contemplates a second phase of short-term expansion that will increase the operational capacity of the venue. It is estimated that this expansion could bring the number of gaming machines up to 250 units and integrate new areas exclusively dedicated to sports betting, a segment that is currently in the negotiation stage. Likewise, the growth plan includes the opening of additional gastronomic spaces and new leisure proposals that will consolidate the multidisciplinary profile of the place.
