Lotto.com announces expansion into Puerto Rico
The US online lottery platform Lotto.com announced its expansion into Puerto Rico, marking the company's first launch outside the continental United States. On the island, the company already offers draw games, and players can participate from their mobile phones or computers in offerings such as Powerball, Powerplay, Double Play, Loto Cash, Multiplicador, and Revancha X2, as well as Pega 2, Pega 3, and Pega 4.
Lotto.com also operates in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Oregon. In Puerto Rico, Electronic Lottery revenues are allocated to essential services such as education, health initiatives, and infrastructure improvements.
Thomas Metzger, President and CEO of Lotto.com, described the arrival in Puerto Rico as an important chapter for the company, through which it seeks to offer residents a digital and convenient mechanism to participate in draw games, generating new customers and increasing Electronic Lottery revenues.
The announcement comes at a time when Puerto Rico is discussing expanding its lottery offerings. Last month, the House of Representatives began debating a bill that would create an annual extraordinary draw within the Traditional Lottery, whose revenues would fund contributions to the health plans of thousands of retired teachers. The initiative, identified as House Bill 1135 and presented by legislator Pedro Santiago Guzmán, was analyzed by the Government Commission and proposes using the proceeds from this new draw to provide a $100 contribution to cover health expenses for retired teachers affected by the elimination of that benefit in 2013.
