Argentina and Paraguay cross methods against illegal online gambling
The detection of illegal online gambling has ceased to be a matter of national borders, as highlighted by the training organized by the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina. Titled "Detection, Prevention, Investigation, and Fight Against Illegal Online Gambling," the event brought together representatives from the Paraguayan Association of Gambling Operators, the Public Ministry and the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Paraguay, the Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering or Assets, and the Paraguayan National Police.
On the Argentine side, the methodologies were jointly presented by ALEA, Lotba, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Gambling, and the Judicial Police Investigation Unit, with the participation of the Argentine Chamber of Casino, Bingo, and Annex Halls. The content covered the different stages of the illegal online gambling circuit and focused on the role played by the regulated private sector in detecting, identifying, and reporting these activities.
Representing CASCBA, Executive Director Rodolfo Edgardo Cattaneo and analyst Nicolás Martín Amarilla Díaz presented, describing the chamber's work in tracking sites and profiles linked to illegal gambling, as well as advertising, affiliates, and other mechanisms used to attract bettors. The entity maintained that spaces for exchange and institutional cooperation are a requirement to confront a dynamic and cross-border digital phenomenon, which demands constant work between the public and private sectors and international coordination.
The meeting also addressed the procedures for documenting and reporting illegal offerings and the available channels for cooperation with public bodies, investigative authorities, and technology providers.
CASCBA groups operators of casino, bingo, and annex halls in Argentina and has been systematically monitoring social media for months, which has allowed it to achieve the elimination of 1,066 profiles promoting illegal gambling. Paraguay, for its part, is undergoing a process of strengthening its controls over online offerings, with SEPRELAD and the prosecutor's office involved in tracking unauthorized platforms.
