Fanduel & CME Group launch Fanduel Predicts in US prediction markets
FanDuel and CME Group announced the launch of FanDuel Predicts, a new prediction markets platform that will initially operate in Alabama, Alaska, South Carolina, North Dakota, and South Dakota, as part of a gradual nationwide rollout.
The initiative aims to offer U.S. users a new way to participate in markets linked to both financial news and sporting and cultural events, even in states where online sports betting is not yet authorized. Expansion to more territories is planned for the coming months, with an eye on 2026.
FanDuel Predicts will operate as a standalone mobile app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and will incorporate the identity verification system already used by FanDuel. The registration process requires personal and financial data, including official identification, address, and Social Security number, complying with customer due diligence and fraud prevention standards.
Once the account is enabled, users will be able to buy or sell event contracts with values ranging from US$0.01 to US$0.99. Each contract allows binary positioning, choosing “Yes” or “No” based on the expectation that a certain event will occur.
The offering will include contracts linked to financial indicators with national reach across all 50 states, such as the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, oil, gas and gold prices, cryptocurrencies, and key macroeconomic variables, including GDP and the consumer price index.
On the sports front, the platform will allow trading contracts on baseball, basketball, American football, and hockey in those states where online sports betting is not yet legal, excluding tribal jurisdictions. As new states approve online betting regulations, FanDuel Predicts will withdraw this type of sports contracts from those markets.
FanDuel explained that the project seeks to explore new ways of interacting with users. James Cooper, senior vice president of Flywheel and New Ventures, noted that the initial launch will serve as a laboratory to understand customer behavior. According to him, the learnings obtained in this first phase will be key to adjusting the product before its broader expansion next year.
For its part, CME Group highlighted that the partnership allows bringing prediction markets to a mass audience. Lynne Fitzpatrick, the group’s president and chief financial officer, stated that the collaboration opens the door for a new generation of users to participate in markets based on economic indices, global benchmarks, and sporting events, leveraging FanDuel’s base of millions of registered customers in the United States.
With FanDuel Predicts, both companies seek to position themselves at the intersection of finance, entertainment, and event prediction, in a context where this type of product is gaining visibility within the regulated U.S. ecosystem.
